Does taking a free period look bad?

Hi, today my counselor told me taking 5 classes senior year would look bad and that i should take a TA spot instead. here is my current schedule:

1)Calc AP
2)Photo 1(want to drop and move myth here)
3)gov ap
4)physics honors
5)chem ap
6)myth but i want a free period here
the reason i want to do this is so i can have more time to work on college apps/ homework, does anyone know if my counselor is just wrong?

i plan on applying to: UC Davis, UC Irvine, Cal poly, San jose state, and UC berkeley at the moment. my ACC GPA is 3.8 and a 1800 sat score equivalent, any tips would help

IMO, usually it’s best if you choose a class over a free period. However, I don’t think it would hurt you considering your schedule is already rigorous. You could also have your counselor mention your priority of studying rather than taking a pointless elective in his/her counselor form.
