What if I choose an essay prompt which is less complex and easier to understand as compared to others? Since majority of the students will be going with the easier ones (I guess), will my chances increase if I choose a seemingly complex (or rare) topic?

It doesn’t matter which prompt you chose. What matters is how and what your essay conveys about you. :)

So long as you writing does the prompt justice, it doesn’t matter which one you choose. Just choose the one for which you have the best ideas!

Just make sure your essay is original and allows you to stand out. Stay away from the cliche essay topics (e.g. “The big game” essay, “the volunteering experience that changed my whole life” essay) and choose something that means something to you. If you really want to write about a topic that has been done many times before, just know that admissions officers will hold your essay to a higher standard then one with a very unique topic.
