This may sound like a stupid question but I had the idea of writing my essay in "play" form like "mom: adklfjsldkfjjdfj
Bob: adfjlsakdjfaldkfj". I know that colleges want to see your writing skills in this essay but wouldn't it those skills still come across? It's not like it's a poem where there might not even be full sentences. Thanks to anybody that responds!

A play would be very difficult to write an essay. Keep in mind, you are using your experience to show off who you are to colleges, not to storytell. There’s a difference.

College Essay uses your “story” or “experience” to show what you would contribute to the school or how you can overcome challenges, or what you want to pursue. It would definitely be difficult to depict that in a play because of the formatting. It might sound awkward, or maybe there won’t be enough words to complete your play to create the impact you want to showcase (since there’s always an essay word limit).

If you’re a talented enough writer, I think a play would be an interesting way to write the essay. The admission officer would pay much more attention to your application if it is well written. But if you aren’t as confident in your writing skill, it’s best to just write a regular but extremely well written and straight to the point essay.

Take my advice with a grain of salt, and good luck!

thank you so much!
