Does the common app essay have to reflect your intended major?

I was reading a bunch of chance me threads and alot of people said that the essays have to reflect your intended major and why it would be good for you. I don't really have anything that pertains to my major. I wrote about how I tried something new this summer. Also, if someone who is in college or is graduating could critique my essay, that would be amazing. Thanks

It does not need to be about your intended major. It’s more so used to show a personal glimpse into your personality, intellectual vitality etc.

No, not at all. I think it is actually better if it is not formal and academic as it shows another side of yourself. Mine was rather informal and talking about something that happened in my youth, though it did somewhat connect to my interests and who I was as a person. I’d be happy to help read an essay.

I graduated college last year and would be happy to read your essay. I would recommend not writing about your intended major.

The supplements should be more about your intended major, whereas the common app is just more about yourself as a person.
