Does the Common App Make a Difference?

Okay, so I've been thinking about this for awhile, and it's really gotten to the point where I have to know what others think.

For schools that offer both their own application as well as the Common App, are the schools really non-discriminatory in terms of whether you use their app or the common app?

The way I view it is filling out the school's app shows that you're not merely adding another top 25 school that offers the common app to your common app school list for the hell of it. It shows that you are actually genuinely interested in the school, and the school therefore may place a little bit of weight on the fact that you filled out their app out vs. the common app.

I don't know if this is true, and I know that there is no way of actually verifying this, but I'm curious as to what others think.

no it doesn't!! i applied ED to a school using the common app and got in..it really doesnt matter and saves plenty of time and u can choose your own essay topics for the most part.

Iagree with bsb, if your schools take the common app, use them wherever you can and then focus on writing the 2 to 3 supplemental essays, short answers as needed.

My D applied to 7 schools all using the common application. She submtted all of the supplements and it made no difference when decision time came (she was admitted to all of her schools).

Nope...does not matter which form you use.
