My cousin is in IB program right now, and my aunt wants him to take sat on October. The IB teacher says the first time sat is very important, and she does not want him to take sat on October. I just want to know the first time SAT matter or not.

I took it only once. My wife took it only once. Our daughter took it only once.

For us, it did.

I cannot imagine why the IB teacher says that the first time you take the SAT matters more than any other, but I also cannot imagine why anybody would ever go into a testing session thinking, “Well, this time doesn’t really matter.”

Every time you take the sat is important. Always try your best because if you are satisfied with your first score, you don’t have to go through the process of studying again (not to mention not having to pay the entrance fee again).

I agree that the “first time” is important. If your score is sufficiently good, you can focus your energies on something else. If it’s not quite good enough but strong, you have confidence that the SAT is the right test for you and know what to tweak a bit. OTOH, if the score is really poor, you have to see if maybe the ACT is more up your alley, find time to study/ get tutoring, and most importantly, your confidence will suffer.

I really think the first time sat score is important bc there are lots of top school just accepted your first or second time sat scores. Maybe they do not tell that, but I think this is the truth for the top school. When you get a good sat score at the first time, you will be free to do something else on other subjects or something you want to go on.
