Does the term bill come in the mail?

My daughter says she did not receive any type of notification that the term bill was due, by mail or email. Now, admittedly, anyone could look up the due dates on the web site and figure out that the bill had to be somewhere…Eventually, with some “encouragement” she found it via the portal and it was already >1 week past due.

Was there something she overlooked?

I called the school and they are sending out paper bills as well.

So, let me get this straight……
You had no idea that your daughter’s school was charging her for attending?

Not sure how you would interpret a question about how to access the term bill as “having no idea that [my] daughter’s school was charging her for attending”! If I had no idea, why would I be interested in finding the term bill?

One needs the term bill to know the exact amount to write the check for. Various fees seem to fluctuate according to the courses selected.

Because we have the checks made out to the university out of the 529 account, it is helpful to know the amount well in advance in order to have the check cut. In the end, we made our best guess (based on last semester). Turns out it was too much and presumably she will have an account credit to carry forward.

Ironically, the paper bill was actually in our mailbox when I originally posted this question. We just hadn’t retrieved the mail yet. As it happens, the paper bill doesn’t seem to have the 12/14 due date that was on the AU portal.

We have not received the paper bill yet. Don’t know why it takes so long to arrive.

By the way ilovethe47 - no one else was confused by Deskpotato’s question. Wondering why you were even looking at the American board.

You might look at the authorized student data area of the myau web portal. It allows you to access several items, which includes pending charges, grades, etc.

Thanks. Around what date did the spring term bill become available through the portal? And do you happen to know around when to start looking for the fall term bill?

We need to pay it by mail, so we have to print out the invoice from the portal and mail it in with the check.

I pay two different universities. The emails came on November 28 and December 4 for the spring term bills. You have to be signed up to get the email. Don’t worry if it is late. I bet there is no late fee. If you send it now it should arrive before classes start. (Sooner if you do an electronic transfer. Are you sure your 529 doesn’t allow direct payment?)

I saw the spring term bill online as soon as my daughter registered.

After this upcoming spring term, they say that they will no longer be mailing paper bills to anybody. Supposedly by then parents will be able to view their student’s itemized account through the parent portal (currently that’s only available on the student portal).

Suggestion to the “PARENTS” here making all these inquiries requiring tuition and such……
As a current graduate student @ American, I would strongly suggest that you openly communicate with your undergraduate kids that you wish to have their primary access code and password for the following-
<a href=“Sign In”>Sign In;
which is MyAU Portal. This area will give you full access to all their information. Also, if your kids resist providing you’re their access codes reference they don’t want you to view their school provided e-mail, then they have the option to use a secondary password solely for their email different than the MyAU Portal password.
If your kids claim that this is an intrusion to their “private space”, just suggest that you will only use it to access their bills (THAT YOU PAY) and only seek information regarding official school activities. This web site will permit you to follow your student’s progress at school in a non-intrusive manner. Additionally, while I was in undergraduate school, in lieu of giving me cash on a regular basis, my parents placed all my monies used for school into my ATM card which they were able to “trace” each transaction online.
