I applied as an Emory Scholar. However, I was not selected as a finalist. But from what I heard, I gathered the idea that the admission officers decide whether some of the rejected scholar applicants are accepted into the university or not during that time as well.

Well a few weeks ago, Emory sent me an email about financial aid. Then, an automated voice recording from Emory called my house, Next, another email was sent to me. Finally, another email was sent to me yesterday.

The thing that strikes me as interesting about the email is that:

It states that "additional information is required before your award can be finalized". Why would they want to finalize my award if I was not accepted?

Does anyone know what this means? Has this happened in the past as well?

Financial aid departments don't know which applicants will be admitted so they have to prepare packages for all of them. They are required by the Feds to obtain copies of tax forms for at least 30%. This is the time of year when applicants are contacted by financial aid departments and asked to provide additional information so that a financial aid package can be ready if they are admitted. Being contacted doesn't mean you're admitted (and for folks who haven't been contacted, it doesn't mean you're rejected.)

Emory is really starting to annoy us. They keep bombarding us with requests for financial aid documents even though we have already sent them all the information twice! I do not think their FinAid office runs very smoothly.
By the way I was also a scholar applicant (but did not get finalist)

Our experience with the FA office has been great. We were approaching the March 1st deadline yet we were still waiting on a 1099 from our financial brokerage firm. Many of the large brokerage companies were granted a 30 day extension. It looked like we were not able to meet the deadline so I e-mailed FA through OPUS. We got a quick reply. As it turned out, my DH phoned our broker and got the long awaited 1099 by fax within the hour. We were able to complete our taxes and I sent the required documents to FA via USPS Priority mail. (I paid the small charge for delivery confirmation)

Be patient with FA. They too are under a tight deadline to satisfy your need to know if and how much aid is offered to you. Why not look at their daily requests as reminders that your file has not gone into the reject pile. I suggest you make copies again and send USPS Priority mail with delivery confirmation. Don't you think your small inconvenience is worth it? Put it in perspective, remember,.....your asking THEM for money.

Eh, I've emailed them weeks ago and they haven't responded. The admissions office was able to get back to me within like 2 days in the middle of December (right before EDI decisions, so pretty busy). I get that it's a busy time for them and they might be behind, but at the very least they could give some sort of response, even a boilerplate one that says they are still processing.

It's not a good feeling to be completely in the dark regarding a process that involves for some of us tens of thousands of dollars and concerns whether we are able to attend.

Yes. We have had huge personal issues get ex hubby to submit his info.....and now they are asking for it AGAIN. Along with my W-2. AGAIN. I just make nice and keep sending it. I don't think its a hint that #2 is accepted though.
