I just got a letter from the Office of Financial Aid saying:

Dear _______________,

During a review of documents in your Financial Aid Application, we have determined that additional information is needed. In the event that you are admitted to Northwestern University as a freshman for the 2006-2007 academic year, the following documents will assist us in determining an accurate financial aid award...

...Sincerely,

Assistant Director
Office of Undergraduate Financial Aid
Northwestern University

Does this essentially imply something or am I look too much into it.
Thanks

it says "In the event that you are admitted to Northwestern University as a freshman..." the words IN THE EVENT... means that it is NOT a likely letter or anything like that.. and also the fin aid department is seperate from the admissions department.. so dun get ur hopes 2 high

But it says in the event u get in to NW, which kinda states that u maybe somewhat in the borderline. Also try asking if other people got this letter.

Unfortunately, it means nothing because the offices are separate. The Financial Aid Office comes up with the financial packages for all applicants that apply for aid (hence why they require all such forms prior to admitance) but obviously only give the information to accepted students. I wouldn't take it as a good sign or a bad sign.

Even though the offices are seperate, there is no way the financial aid office has the time, the resource, or any other capicty to analyze the 16,000+ (last years number) financial aid apps and make sure everyone has turned everything in. Its just too much paperwork and too many varying financial situations. That's why I figured that the Admission office review the applications and the individuals applications, who seemed to have a good chance (including those to be waitlisted), would be forwarded to the financial aid office. In that manner, you are cutting the quantity of applications to a couple thousand. Also, this preserves the idea of need-blind admission because the admission and financial office do not collaborate during the admission process.

Just my two cents. Does it make sense or am I just not thinking clearly?

Either way, it's still not a BAD sign...so don't spend these last few days before decision announcements stressing out over what various signs could indicate. you will know soon enough, and i wish you the best.

I didn't get it, even though 2 other schools required that I send in the Business/farm supplement. And I still got into NU anyways...I don't get this whole college business :(
