So I got an email this morning:

March 15, 2005
To:* ****** ********* **********
Dear **:
As a member of the Committee on Admission at Northwestern, I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed reading your application for admission. Best of luck as you continue through your senior year at ** High School!
Sincerely,
Allen V. Lentino

What does this mean? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

It's probably a likely e-mail instead of a likely letter. It's too close to the deadline for them to send those out anymore. Just my guess...

By the way, congradulations! I had to leave earlier and was typing kind of quickly so I didn't say it then.

Unlike you, I feel a rejection coming on for me. I really hate my standardized test scores!

aw i want one :( are you a URM?

LOL!!! I really second maharani. It seems like they're giving so many likely letters out on this forum (and probably to people not even on this forum) that they're giving them out to everyone. It feels like there's no chance for me since I haven't gotten one.

franklinbrown...can you post your stats?

I got the same exact email. So did my best friend. Does this really mean anything? I thought everyone that applied to NU got one?

I haven't gotten one. Are you by chance a URM?

Nope. We're both asian:-)

I'm not a URM, either.

Stats?
SAT:1470
GPA: 3.95

Yeah, I really don't know whether it's a "likely" anything or not! Ditzy, which school did you apply to?

I applied to the School of Communications.

okay guys lets not play dumb, obviously you've been accepted...congrats...i hope they didn't send this to everyone like you said Ditzy or else i'm screwed

I think it just means the adcom member actually enjoyed your essays and wanted to let you know. And yes, you're in.

they are still sending out likelies? geez, i'm am so nervous right now. i just got waitlisted at washu.. anyway, congrats franklinbrown!

stats:
1510 SAT
4.0
School of Communication.

my friend had 1580 SAT, 3.7?, and she did not apply to school of comm. i think she applied to weinberg or their engineering prog. and we both live in FL. so that's a little weird. franklin where do you live?

I live in Portland, OR.

Yeah...definitely didn't get a "likely".. :( Oh well, I suppose I shall learn my fate soon enough...it's not as though I think I would actually go there now anyway...It's good to know I've already been accepted to my first choice (with possible scholarship)...but I REALLY don't want a rejection...

i didnt get one either. my stats are fairly similar to the above. sats, grades, even asian!! lol. eh, watever.

congratulations if you get in ^_^

I am a freshman at NU this year and got that exact e-mail last year. Congrats!

do they send these 'likely' letters out to overly qualified students who are basically guaranteed in or something?

im from a really good school in the chicago-area, so a lot of students apply to NU from my school.. and as far as i know, i haven't heard of anyone getting any 'likely emails'.. and a lot of them are very very qualified..

I really don't know why they choose to send these out to some and not others. I'm not a URM or an athlete or anything like that. I don't even feel that my scores put me at the very top of the applicant pool. If you didn't get one, don't worry. It doesn't mean that you are less likely to get in.
