I'm going into my Junior year, and I will be taking Algebra 2/Trig as a math. I'm wondering if that will look bad for college. If I do well enough in it, I plan on taking Pre-Cal over the summer in order to take Calc AB. I also want to take AP Stats for my Senior year. Note that I don't plan on going to an Ivy League school. I'm just asking if taking Algebra 2/Trig for math my Junior year will look bad when I apply.

Depends on what college you ARE looking at.

If you plan on eventually making it to AP Calc in high school, though, I don’t think it will matter much on how you got there. Either way, you took AP Calc, which is better than most high school students.

Thank you. Bumping for more answers.

You know you’ve been on CC too long when the idea of not doing AP Calc in high school seems bat sh¡t crazy [this goes for me too].

do what YOU want to do, not what you THINK colleges want you to do

if this is the level you’re at, stick with it
conversely, i can say push yourself but do it for the want to learning, not because you’d think it would look better for colleges

MOST high school students take Algebra 2 their junior year, btw

^I find that very hard to believe.

Most 8th graders take 8th grade math, go on to Algebra 1, then Geometry, then Algebra 2/Trig. I dont know about you guys but that’s how it is in NY at least.

At my school, the NORMAL sequence for Math classes are:
-Freshman take Algebra 1
-Sophomores take Geometry
-Juniors take Alg 2
-Seniors take Pre-calc

but if you’re ahead, the next classes in the sequence are Calc AB, Calc BC, Stats (stats can be switched with Calc)
