Does this look like a good junior year schedule and high school plan?

Hi! I’m currently a sophomore and am taking APUSH, my first AP class. I was wondering if my high school plan seems vigorous enough for a good or top college (assuming I have good EC’s and volunteering and such) and if the workload will be manageable. Right now I have around a 3.7 (I slacked off, but this semester has been really good)

For next year, I am planning on the following:

AP Calculus BC (I learned calc a few years ago so it won’t be too hard)
AP Chemistry (I’m taking Honors Chem so this transition would be appropriate)
AP English (it will be a challenge, esp. depending on teacher)
AP Chinese (depending on if I study for Chinese 4 over the summer and skip it for junior year)
AP Computer Science or AP Physics (I’m stuck on which one to choose)
Marching band

Summer of junior year: self study APES (is it worth it?), possibly learn Japanese or sign language, normal Political Science in summer school, study for SAT, ACT, volunteer, try to do some research for science

Senior Year Plan:
AP Biology (it would be interesting, but not my favorite subject)
AP Statistics (I don’t want to, but 4 years of math is recommended)
AP Literature
AP Computer Science/Physics (depending on what I choose for next year)
Another AP I’m not sure of (either AP Psychology, AP Art History, or no zero period)
Marching band

Does this seem good enough? The high school I go to is public but everyone is over the top crazy over academics, and almost everyone has a 4.0, so I feel really dumb and bad about the B’s that I got.

Could you tell me how your AP classes were when you took them? If you could recommend either AP Comp or Physics for junior year, and what I should do about senior year, that would be great too! Be free to give any tips you have too!

Thank you!

It’s actually kinda freaky how similar your plan is to mine… I’m more or less in the same boat as you, even though I’m only a freshman, I also have a 3.7 gpa in a school of many 4.0s because of some slacking off on my part, really high expectations for myself and some rigorous plans that involve 3-5 APs in junior/senior year. (And marching band!!! <3333).

Anyway, I’m taking a physics course right now and I find it really interesting, it completely depends on what your interests are, if I had to choose, I would go for AP Physics because that would help you in a wider spectrum of topics, as opposed to AP comp. But the choice is completely yours.

One thing that stuck out to me was your intention to study Chinese 4 and take AP Chinese next year. I just took the AP Chinese test last week and believe me, it’s no joke, especially if you’re not a native speaker, i’m chinese and I still had some difficulty with it. If you want to do well, you’re really going to have to put in lots of time and effort.

I’m supposed to be taking honors algebra 2 w/ trig next year (sophomore) but I’m thinking about talking to my guidance counselor about taking that over the summer so I can move straight to Pre-Calculus in Sophomore year, and hopefully AP Calculus AB or BC junior year, then AP Stat senior year (mainly so I can have some room for more classes junior/senior year). Does the summer thing sound too demanding or should I go for it? My grade in math isn’t too good right now (90 unweighted, 93 weighted)

Wow that is freaky! Hahaha! Nice trumpet shadow :stuck_out_tongue:
First off, thanks sooo much for replying! I’m thinking about taking AP Physics (:

Apparently at my school, Chinese 4 is really easy (and the Chinese teachers suckssss) so that’s mainly the reason why I want to get it over with over the summer and not have my teacher for another painful year,

Personally, I would totally go for it and take algebra 2 over the summer because I had a “very hard” teacher according to majority of students but I thought it was pretty easy. You seem like you would do well with taking it over the summer and a 90 is good  Don’t freak out too much about low A’s (which most of my friends do).

I was just wondering, what do you do for EC’s besides marching band?

Aside from marching band, I also do regular band, jazz band, Tri-M (music honors society), JV Tennis, debate team, and chess club. I also play the violin.

Your schedule looks a little bit similar to my plan  However, keep in mind that it will be A LOT of work!! And I’m in marching band too! @Stalasphyx64 We’re very similar to, lol, I’m in marching band, symphonic band (clarinet for both), I’m on the debate team, I plan on doing tennis next spring (I missed it this year), and I plan on doing Jazz band junior and senior year (I’m gonna play sax, but I can’t do it next year because I just started learning), and I’m learning guitar and piano on my own. Lol we’re so similar.

But yeah, @SeaweedBrain keep in mind that it will be VERY difficult! If you’re willing to work for it and want to accept the challenge, then go for it!
