Does being published in a major newspaper(Seattle Times) count as an academic honor/distinction? I don't really think it would be an EC because I don't really freelance or anything. It was sort of a one time gig, although I may consider writing some more articles for them if they request it. I think it would be a shame not to include it on my application somewhere and I have 1 vacancy on my list of academic honors/distinctions.

It’s not uncommon- but see if you can work it into something. Was it based on some project or research you did? Did they ask you to comment based on some responsibilities you hold? That sort of thing.

Just noticed my d placed these awards under the academic distinctions or honors and was wondering whether these should be removed from this section and placed under another.

All this really depends on the college. Many will be happy to see any achievements. The more competitive schools are going to expect relevance.

Each entry on the CA is a chance to show perspective and judgment. We’d need to know what these dance awards are to say whether they are usual or represent more.

Dance trophies/awards aren’t “Academic Honors/Distinctions”. They would go under the Awards/positions held/distinctions area under Extracurriculars for Dance.

Any more opinions on published writing as an “academic honor/distinction”?

Also would qualifying for Teen Jeopardy be an Academic honor? I didn’t compete on air because it is a lottery system to be selected.

What was the topic of your piece in the paper? I would generally suggest that you put it under Additional Information. Pieces published in scholarly journals would probably be an academic honor though.
Teen Jeopardy is not an academic honor; I would also put that under Additional Information.
