Does U Mich require any SATII?

Does it require any SATII?
Did you guys(accepted and unaccepted are both welcome) take SATII prior to the application?
Do you recommend to take?
How many?

Thanks.

i was accepted and i didnt take any... it is not required but if u do well it can only help

According to their web site:

The University of Michigan does not require SAT IIs for admission. We require either the SAT I or ACT for freshman consideration. If the SAT II is sent to our office, it will not factor into the admissions decision. If the student is admitted, however, it may be used to determine placement. If a student has been fully or partially home schooled, however, five SAT IIs will be required

Thanks a lot!!
But do you know why don't they need SATII. It's so weird though.

Who knows? I guess Michigan feels that school grades are enough of a determinent. The University probably feels that getting an A in AP Physics is more telling than getting an 800 in SAT II Physics.

That sucks because my school has a huge grade inflation. No A at all in AP Physics C and AP Cal AB and BC as far as I know...

You mean grade deflation. At any rate Hoganwan, the SAT II isn't very telling either, because the standards are quite low. I took 6 and got over 750 on all of them. If your school is tough on grading, they should explain that in writing. Furthermore, AP test scores can complement your grades.

Yeah, I'm sorry. I mean grade deflation...
But I'm just gonna take AP Cal AB test in my Junior year, though I will be taking 4 AP next year.

That's cool. LEt us say you have a B in your AP Calc AB class but a 5 on your AP Calc AB test and a 750+ on the SAT math, then Michigan will realize that your school grades harshly. Michigan looks at the total package. Do not worry, if you are good, Michigan will know.

Thanks. And I have another question. (I'm sorry)

Everyone told me to apply early and I understand why.

But do you recommend me to take SATII in case I'm rejected by Michigan? I'm not native speaker of English, and in fact, I came here 7 months ago. So my counselor told me to take SATI in October, which may be kind of late, since as soon as I know my score, it is already late October.
I'm really nervous.

Here is my stats, (which you may have taken a look on it in other subforum)

I'd take the June 3 SAT if I were you. If you don't do great on it, prepare for it over the summer and retake it on October 8. But if you do well on it from the first time, you don't have to worry about it again. Definitely try to apply as to Michigan as early as you can.

Thanks a lot!! That is also what I thought too!!

I hope I can see you in Michigan. =]

With a 3.75 unweighed GPA, AP classes and a 750 on the Math SAT, I'd say you have a reasonable shot at Michigan.

So what would you consider a good transcript? I know for a fact I won't have that 3.75 and more along that 3.5-3.6 range.

It depends on many other factors. Like SAT, class rank, toughness of curriculum (number of APs etc...), high school you go to etc...
