ed by then? Also, since they don't require teacher's recommendations, does this mean sending some in would be considered bad?

I don’t think they accept Counselor recs, but I could be wrong
I think they told me that they shred them.
I don’t know about OOS though

Ask the admissions office about the date.

This question is a strange one. I don’t believe the UC application allows for counselor reports or for teacher recs. It isn’t optional; it’s just not part of the application. You can’t send them in; there’s nowhere to send it. My understanding is that no supplementary materials whatsoever are allowed, unless requested by the university. This does happen, in borderline cases, but the university initiates the process. Anyway, you need to look into this carefully before you start sending in all kinds of documents. California is a big state, it has its own system, and you need to figure out how to work within that system - its rules, etc.

Yes, definitely reread the instructions. Did you print a counselor report form?

The application and essay must be postmarked by the 30th of November.

Wait, so Berkeley does not take any teacher recs whatsoever?! That’s news to me!

Where do you see on any application materials any reference to teacher recs?

There are no counselor report or teacher rec’s.

you still send in your HS transcript though, right? Just not with any type of “secondary school report” like some other schools?

no HS transcript either.

Cal does not process these as part of the admissions review.

If, and only if, you are offered a spot and choose to accept, will the school then ask for the transcript to validate the grades you have self-reported.

It saves a ton of time and money. Since you enter your a-g grades and coursework on the UC application, they have the data they need to evaluate applicants. Why have to receive, read, enter and save all those transcripts from the large number of applicants who will not be attending either because they are not offered a spot or to a lesser degree because they got multiple college acceptances and chose another to attend.

Don’t remember where but UC has clear instructions that says something like “Do not send anything unless requested.”

All you need to do
- Fill out the app with the 2 essays
- Send SAT/ACT and subject test scores

If UC want anything else, they will let you know.

Technically there are counselor reports, but they are not something you worry about.

After you apply the UC sends something to their counselor in high school and he/she fills it out and sends it out and you don’t have to do anything. That is what my GLC said when I was in HS

Not true.

The UCs do perform what is called “augmented review” on any app on the bubble, so to speak, i.e., they are looking for reasons to admit. In such cases they will contact you for further information AND recs. Time to go “all in.” But if they don’t ask for recs, they will not accept them and they will not read them.

for augmented review, the so-called supplemental, there is an online set of questions that show up on the myberkeleyapplication site. The online questions ask for your first half senior year grades as well as some other text and short essay type questions. In addition to the form you fill out, you are provided a link to ask ONE person for a recommendation - can be teacher or counselor, your choice. Once the link is used for a submission it becomes invalid and can’t be used to send a second one. Only a sliver of all applications are selected for augmented review and you will know because it pops up on the myberkeleyapp site one day. They may or may not notify you by email. Thus, check in regularly to the site.

This should clear things up. Taken directly from the UC Application Instructions.
