Hello! I was interested in applying to UCLA this fall but am not sure how much financial aid will cover. My sister went straight to a 4 year cal state and her tuition was covered. I would be considered in state and come from a low income family. Commuting is not an issue either. I just want to know if there is any scholarships that cover tuition or if financial aid can cover it all?
UC’s and Cal states can be generous with need-based aid if you are eligible. Academic scholarships are available but you need to be in the top 1-2% of applicants.
What are your current stats?
The best way to determine how much FA you would receive from UCLA is to run their Net Price Calculator:
Due to the virus all SATs have been cancelled. I read an article on the UC website that it will be suspended for fall admission 2020.

So I believe stats won’t play a role when I apply. In that case it falls to my ec and gpa. I have a 4.0 uw and 4.5 w. I am not too sure what my ranking is it’ll change after this semster.
Your GPA is very important since UC’s tend to be more GPA focused vs. test focused. UC’s do not consider school rankings other than ELC (eligibility in the local context- top 9% of your HS).
Since the UC’s are going test optional for next Fall, then you have to concentrate on your personal insight essays, HS course rigor and EC’s to set you apart.
If you are low income, the combination of need-based aid and possibly academic scholarships such as Regents could lead to a full ride.
Getting accepted will be the first hurdle with over 100,000 applicants with the majority which are high achieving.
@267648 . . . ~ 46% of UCLA students attend w/o having to pay tuition, through Blue & Gold, etc. These are only in-state students, and it is need-based not academically.
Edit: Of these, I don’t know how many have stipends for housing, etc., but there are work-study type situations, RA etc., that bring down the cost. And UCLA does “pay” its students very well in these situations. And if it’s extra cash she/he needs, then it does pay well too.
