Hello,
I’m currently a junior and I was transferred from China. Because of my Chinese school’s transcript(the courses I took in China were way harder than here) and the difficulties I had as a newcomer(I came to school as a sophomore), my GPA is only 3.3 right now. I am currently taking 4 honor courses and 1 AP, next year I’ll be taking 5-6 APs.If UGA recalculate high school students’ GPA, I would probably have a chance. Especially when I see their first year students have a overall GPA of 3.9, middle 50% of 3.8-3.9, middle 50% of honors students have even gone to 4.18.(That’s pretty crazy if UGA uses a 4.0 scale.) Despite of my SAT(which will within the range from 1750-2000 as far as I concerned.), would I be competitive to other students? I can speak both Chinese and English, and I will take German III honors next year. :(( :((
Thanks a lot!!

HAHA, it’s Bump, not pump. Son is going to UGA next year. Here is what I can tell you. UGA recalculates your GPA, but they do not give you quality points for Honors classes. That may not help you. Your counselor should be able to help you with calculating what you have and what you need. Try for all A’s this semester. Being bi-lingual Chinese should help, but make sure you are a rounded student. EC’s, volunteer and leadership. Also remember, if you apply EA, you only have through the end of Junior year for grades. Try to get your ACT or SAT as high as possible (at least 2,000) to offset the lower grades. Good luck!
They do not give additional weight to honors classes but they do consider your course load in the context of your school.
