Does UIUC look at weighted or unweighted GPA?

I heard that UIUC only looked at the unweighted GPA of your core classes only during the selection process. Is this only for super competitive majors, or is this for all students? If it is true, would core classes be limited to math, science, history, and English courses?

Thanks!

Yes, UIUC uses unweighted core GPA (also includes foreign language as a core subject, in addition to your list). Of course they also take the rigor of your courses into schedule. Here is what they are looking for wrt number of courses in each core area, as well as other factors they take into account when making the admissions decision: First-Year Application Requirements, Undergraduate Admissions, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Got it, thanks so much for the response and the link!

You’re welcome. UIUC has an “Applying to UIUC” guide available for free download on their admissions page…it has a lot of good tips for your application.

Good luck.
