Does UMD superscore the ACT and the SAT?

I'm pretty sure that they superscore the SAT, but I have not heard anything about superscoring the ACT.

And for those of you who don't know, superscoring means that only the highest subsections from all the test dates are looked at.

And an off-topic question as well, but does UMD look at the writing (that is the essay portion, right?) section on the ACT? The UMD website says this:
[quote]
In order to satisfy the standardized test score requirement, students applying to the University of Maryland for admission must submit scores from either the SAT or the ACT with the essay component. At this time, we do not use the writing portion of these tests as one of the criteria in the admissions review process.

However, CollegeBoard says this:
[quote]
If submitting ACT, the writing section is required.

I'm inclining on believing the UMD website over CollegeBoard, seeing as it is the official website, but hopefully someone with experience in the matter can shed some light on this.

Please re-read what you posted from the UMD website

I think that is pretty clear…YOU MUST SUBMIT WRITING, but regardless of the SAT or ACT they AT THIS TIME will “mask” the score. The reason they want the writing is because it allows them to “unmask” the score whenever they want since every student will be submitting the writing score as directed by not only college board, but UMD too. Thus, every applicant is still on the same playing feel with no loop hole to challenge the acceptance or rejection.

Yes, they superscore both the SAT and ACT. Do not confuse this with what some others do…i.e 36 on ACT M and a 720 on SAT M, thus they take ACT, while they take your 800 SAT CR.

They take the highest superscore out of both of them. If your ACT comes out to the equivalent of 1350 SAT, but your actual SAT is 1300, they will consider your application on the basis of the ACT score.
