I heard UNC does not put any consideration into class rank, but they still list statistics relative to rank on their "class profile's"...

Anyone else wondering the same thing?

According to CollegeBoard (SAT) and CollegeData sites, the UNC profile notes Class Rank as being “Very Important” in the admission decision. See the links below:

I spoke to an admissions officer–she said they do look but it’s not important.

hmm alright thanks! this wait is driving me crazy!

When I was at UNC for the tours, either the brochures or the admissions officers (I can’t remember which, possibly both!) made the statement that either 1 in 5 (or 1 in 6, it’s been over a year since that tour haha) of the admitted students at the university are either the valedictorian or salutatorian of their high school classes.

After boasting such statistics, I have to assume that it’s something they care about. Clearly it’s something they keep track of.

Yeah that was the point I was making. At the tour I attended, the information guides said that class rank isn’t considered- even mentioned that they rejected more valedictorians than they accepted the previous year; however, there are still statistics regarding class rank listed on the undergraduate admissions website.
