Does UNC usually/rarely defer EA candidates if not accepted EA?

(Assuming candidate is not way off on admission criteria)

If I get what you’re asking, it’s whether a “defer” means something at UNC or whether its a polite response to the candidates who are at least in the ball park. Is that right? Stanford is perhaps most famous for taking only exceptionally strong candidates to the RD round…but there are others where it’s hard to read the tea-leaves.

My answer is that I don’t know but would welcome insights from others.

I do have data on how many make it off the wait list ( 2016 data)

Early Action Admission Rate 39% of 17158 applicants were admitted
Students Offered Wait List 3,144
Students Accepting Wait List Position 1,513
Students Admitted From Wait List 78

Sorry, I wasn’t terribly clear. I meant moving from early action pool to regular decision pool, not waiting list.
Thanks for the info.
