I went to my guidance counselor today and she said that i should apply to U of M very early in the year for rolling admissions and then apply to my ED school by the deadline that way i have one definite back up if i don't get into my number one, but i cannot find anything on their website that says it is rolling admission- did they stop offering it recently?

UM still offers rolling admissions. I would suggest applying very early or before the Nov. 1st deadline for early action so that you may know your decision before Dec. 22nd.

oh okay thank you! and if you apply rolling it is ok to early decision somewhere else right?

Michigan no longer has rolling admission. Instead, there is an Early Action program, where if you apply by the November 1 deadline, you will get a response by mid-December (even though your response may be that you are deferred to regular decision):

[Early Action | University of Michigan Office of Admissions](http://www.admissions.umich.edu/early)

A few years ago, Michigan did have a rolling admission progress, where, if I remember correctly, you could apply as early as September and hear back as early as October.

You can also apply EA to Michigan while applying ED to another school. Michigan’s EA is non-binding. The only restriction is if the other university you are applying to has restrictive EA, such as Harvard, Princeton, Stanford and Yale. In most cases, EA options are non-restrictive, and you can apply to as many as you wish. For example, you can apply EA to Chicago, Georgetown and Michigan at the same time, while also applying ED to Northwestern.

Where can I get a list of schools that have unrestricted EA? Which EA schools have strong engineering programs (I think U. Michigan does)?

Georgia Institute of Technology (October 1 deadline)
Massachussets Institute of Technology (only for US citizens and Resident Aliens)
University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign (not EA, but students who apply by November 1 get a response before New Year’s)
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (November 1 deadline)
University of Wisconsin (not EA, but students who apply by November 1 get a response before New Year’s)

Not quite at the level of Alexandre’s school’s (above):

Worcester Polytechnic Institute

Drexel has rolling admission (if your application is complete by the end of September, you should hear back around November 1)
