I'm interested in going to UofM and I was wondering if they offer a Bachelors in Accounting. UofM is the best school I have a chance of getting in to and I'd like to know what degree I should be aiming for there.

There is a Masters of Accounting Program. I think it is a five year program that gives you a BBA and a MAcc

No bachelors in accounting. MAcc is a one year masters in accounting at anyone can apply for given introductory accounting background.

if you want to go into accounting, ross places a lot of their BBAs into accounting careers.

Hmm this is kind of confusing. Does Ross offer any Bachelors degrees except for a BBA because I’m not sure sure I’ll be able to find a good job with that?

Why is it confusing aldo? Like most BBA programs, Ross offers a degree in Business Administration. Students can take several electives in specific business fields, such as Management, Finance, Marketing, Accounting etc…,but regardless of course selection, the degree will be a BBA. Below are placement figures for BBA students into the 4 major accounting firms:

Ernst & Young: 7 full time, 9 interns
PWC: 4 full time, 12 interns
Deloitte & Touche: 3 full time, 2 interns
KPMG: 3 full time, 3 interns

http://www.bus.umich.edu/pdf/EmploymentProfile2009.pdf

Considering that Ross’ class is relatively small (350 students), those figures are pretty good.

I apologize I’m just really new to all this stuff. So basically what happens is I would get a BBA after four years and then…? Would I have to get a Masters in a more specific field if I want to have any chance looking for work?

What kind of job would I be looking at if I just get a BBA?

Also, why is Ross’s class size so small?

So much to learn, young grasshopper.

Ross is different than most other business schools because we get BBAs. We aren’t accounting majors or finance majors or marketing majors, we’re business majors. We take core classes in all business subjects and then choose our own “concentrations,” which are unofficial and just require us to take 3-4 classes in that department. if you’re a BBA and take several accounting classes and do well and get to know faculty in the accounting department you’ll get into the MAcc program, which is really just an extension of the BBA program because many of your MAcc classmates are from your BBA class, but you get to take graduate courses and electives.
