Is their any kind of preference/advantage for a UPenn undergrad student applying to UPenn Medical School or is this not true at all?

nope. wouldn’t worry too much about it for about 3 years, especially b/c the brutal fact is that most kids who start pre-med don’t finish pre-med.

I graduated in May, and I will say that I was surprised how many of many friends are going to Penn Med; I can name eight off the top of my head, and the entering class is only 154, which is over 5%. I would say Penn undergrads are slightly overrepresented, but it is not too significant. And yes, I will echo axc’s sentiment that a fair fraction of freshmen who enter as pre-meds don’t end up at med school.

how about prelaw? Would there be any kind of preference/advantage for a UPenn undergrad student applying to UPenn Law?

I have actually heard the opposite. from what I know getting into PennMed, although already extremely touch, is much harder for Penn undergraduate students since they want to diversify their class. so even though there are a lot of qualified penn undergrad applicants they want them to try out a different campus. So harder to get into Pennmed as a Penn undergrad than someother undergrad university.
