I got my October SAT score and I received a 1450..I know, it's low, but I read a few things that said they do not require SAT scores, and that it is "considered only when minimum GPA and/or class rank is not met." Is this true? If so, I am thinking about not sending them due to me being in the top 10% as well as having a fairly decent GPA. I am wondering if I should send in my scores or not, and if I should or must, would they hurt me rather than help me?

Now, will they consider it and potentially use it against you? I believe the answer to that is “no,” unless you are ineligible for automatic admission.

The percentage this year is top 8%. Are you sure you qualify? You should have already received information about your eligibility from your HS. Are you at a public school and completing the Recommended or Distinguished graduation plan? If “yes,” and you’re top 8%, then you should have no worries. Talk to your GC to confirm!

If you are an automatic qualifier then it can’t hurt your chances of getting into UT, but it will hurt your chances of getting into certain majors which are picky.

i wasng very specific, sorry for that. i’m not in the auto admit top 8% (8.2%…), what i meant was that since my gpa/class rank is decent, and since it says my SAT score won’t be considered unless they are not met, i am contemplating on whether or not i should send them due to a low score.

You are definitely required to send your SAT scores regardless of anything else.

Since you have not met the top 8% requirement, your SAT scores will be considered in your decision.

If you are top 8%, they don’t matter except for admission to specific schools within the university. But there is no, “should I send them or not”.
