GPA is a very important factor when applying to college, especially the highly selective ones like UVa.
TJ is known for its most rigorous courses, it simply doesn’t have any course lower than honor level.
I guess what Brooklyndad was really trying to say is that UVa should give consideration to the fact that TJ’s 3.7 GPA carries different quality in comparison to most of HS in the nation if not all.

I believe UVa is fully aware of that and the sad thing is we would never know the truth since his D didn’t apply. I know for fact that UVa took TJ’s students with 3.45 GPA as recently as last year.

of course we know uva loves tj students. so many are accepted! but i am just wondering, does anyone have statistics to how many students out of those who applied form tj made uva THIS year? also… i mean. uva obviously likes tj. but… they can’t accept the whole school…

Rainbow, if you are a TJ student/parent, you would have access to this data through Naviance (I think it’s called Family Connections or something like that on your side of things).

Your number is wrong for attending/accepted. It’s 39.5 percent, not 28 percent. 28 percent is attending/applied, which is kind of a meaningless number.

Brooklynborndad seriously needs to move on like he said in the wordy post #140.
I’m sure that his daughter did not apply to UVA and got rejected. Maybe he did.

UVA does not practice yield protection. This thread is years old and we’ve already established that TJ students do exceptionally well in the admission process at UVA and other schools.

This thread is 5 years old; no need to bump. As @“Dean J” has already given the definitive answer, this seems like the perfect time to close this thread.
