gpa will rise after this yr (will be a 3.8 if i get straight a's)
aiming for sat to be about 2100

what are my chances as of now and what do i need to do to get a higher chance?

If 114 people got in last year, I would make a safe bet that if your gpa puts you in the top 100 or so students you'll get in. Your sats are a little low, especially for being asian (as uva generally gets asians with higher sats) I'd work on that. I'd say if you're name isn't ethnic sounding, I wouldn't even put down your asian.

what in the world, how did 114 people get into uva frmo your school last year? what county do you live in?

Are you at Jefferson Science, 88classof07? A 1/3 of Jefferson Science ends up at UVa.

yeah, if you go to TJ you shouldn't have a problem getting in.

^ I agree.

yeah, i go to tj
apparently uva looks upon tj very generously
the safety gpa for tj ppl headed to uva is 3.75

but what should my sat score be? im thinkin 2100

im thinking 1810 will get you into uva from tj.

i dont know, i think they're making it a bit tougher for us
i wanna get in ED though.. think a 2100 would cut it?

if you get a 2100 you'll get in. i hope you figure out how you plan on improving 300 points over the next year...i saw big gains between sophomore and junior year (psats and sats) but I actually went down when i took the sats a 2nd time in my senior year.

And I wouldn't call half your class getting into uva "tough" in the first place. even if it is tougher...what will they do...only admit 100 kids instead of a 115?

I think what I've seen is that about 300 people from TJ get into UVA each year. What I've heard from them is that there tends to be a GPA cutoff - about 3.6 or so - above which one needs to be admitted. Test scores do matter at UVA, and an 1810 is fairly low. If the OP can go up to 2100, he'll stand a good chance.

Where do the rest of TJ go? Do anyone of them go to the really good IVY league schools? I would expect them to.

At my school in Northern VA which is a kind of good academic school like 20 people go to UVA. A few go to really good schools like John Hopkins etc. The rest go to like William and Mary, Wake Forest etc. Like 30 go to VA tech.

yeah, about 60-80 end up in the top schools (ivys, duke, stanford)
over 100 go to uva
about 20-40 to vtech
15-25 to w+m
the rest to diff schools
