My S is interested in applying to UVA. We are from California, I just wonder if there is any merit aid from UVA for OOS. Thank you.

only merit aid available is the jefferson scholarship which is given by the alumni association. you'll have to contact the california alumni association to see if they offer it, and then there a process which someone else will have to tell you about.

The Office of Admissions at UVA does not give merit scholarships of any kind. Pretty lame imo.

The alumni associate offers more than just the Jefferson. Check out their website for other scholarships.

Some departments at UVa also give out merit money. The engineering school, for example, has some full scholarships and a few half scholarships that are offered each year. The music department asks students to audition for scholarship money each year.

State money goes to need-based financial aid. Most of the merit money comes from our alumni.

Among top 25 universities, we're the only school outside of the Ivies, Stanford and MIT that doesn't give merit money through the Office of Admissions, or even much merit money at all.

Son was accepted 3 years ago, invited to be an Echol's Scholar. Our local alumni association does not sponsor a Jefferson Scholarship. He won a full merit scholarship to Washington and Lee and that determined where he would go.

jefferson's the way to go. www.jeffersonscholars.org

wow them on the interview! have fun with it, it's a great process and the finalist weekend, even if you're not offered a scholarship, is an incredible opportunity. one of the best and most challenging weekends of my life. it really changed my perspective on college life.
