Does when you submit the application make a difference?

Does when I submit my Umich application impact my chances? For example, would there be any difference if I submitted on Jan 16th than on Jan 5th?

Don’t really think so. Naturally you would think if submitted sooner it would be reviewed sooner but it doesn’t work like that. February 1st is the deadline but I wouldn’t wait till then either. More important to write a great Loci then rush a bad one, right.?

I’m in the camp of sooner the better.

I think it is a good idea for applicants to “fool themselves” into thinking the deadline is a week earlier than the posted deadline. Every year here on CC we hear of applicants who had internet troubles, or the college server crashed, or they forgot about time zones. Right now there is a thread going by an applicant who genuinely thought the deadline was a day later than it actually was. There’s another post from an applicant who maxed out her credit card repeatedly submitting an application that was uncertain to have been received properly.

Earlier isn’t necessarily an advantage, except in the case of rolling admissions. There is a whole lot that can go wrong at the last minute, though.

Students, save yourself the heartache and apply five to seven days before the deadline at each of your colleges.

You have this weekend. Put down the video games and start writing?. Put effort into it and don’t rehash your other essays /application. Good Luck.
