I was just wondering if winning a really competitive gaming tournament gives you an edge in college apps. I won 7th place in North America for the game Clash Royale, in an official tournament called CCGS. Global around 1 million players entered the tourney, and in North America probably around 100K. I was wondering if this gives me an edge in Ivies if gaming is NOT my passion, just a pastime (i’m not going to get a career as a game designer or anything)
But aside from possibly being an idea for an essay that shows you have passion about something, I can’t imagine why it would help you get into any college… certainly not the Ivies.
Many adults bemoan the seemingly endless hours that teens tend to spend online, playing games. I’m not sure you want to reinforce the point of view.
It may not give an “edge,” but it is certainly something interesting about you to include on your Activities list! Definitly include favorite hobbies and unique achievements such as this one.
