Does working for my dad's company look bad?

I’m a sophomore in high school and I recently expressed interest to my parents in finding a job. My dad offered me a job doing tech support/customer service for his (small, just barely gaining traction) company, which is a personal finance website. I’d get paid very well and I’d learn a lot about finance and computers which will be valuable because I’m not taking classes in either of those at school, but I’m worried that it will look questionable on my resume that I worked for my dad’s company (bordering on nepotism?). My parents insist it won’t be an issue, but I’d like to get some more opinions.

No, sounds like a wonderful opportunity to me! Go for it!

Lots of kids work in family businesses like restaurants, stores, farms. Not unusual at all.

Agree, it is not uncommon to work in a family business and it sounds like you can make this a meaningful experience.

Talk to your Dad to put some of your earnings into a retirement account for you - max it out if you can. You could have 50 years of tax free appreciation. If your money doubled in real terms every decade, $5000 put away now would be $160,000 when you are ready to retire.

fam I’m still working on my college savings

Ask the smart people in the financial aid forum if it is better for the savings to be in an account in your name or your parents name for financial aid.
