Does Yale Care if Your Parents Are From a Different Country

I've been hearing that sometimes it can be advantageous if your parents are from a different country; however, I don't know how accurate this claim really is. My parents, for example, are both from the country of Belarus and came here in their twenties. They both completed college in the US, though.

I was just curious as to whether that will actually be a plus on my application, or whether the admissions people simply don't care.

There are hundreds if not thousands whose parents are from a different country applying to Yale.

Why would that matter? You all live here now and you are a US citizen, correct? Then you will be treated just like any other applicant. Now if there is something about your parents being immigrants (and how that’s affected you) that would make for an interesting essay topic, then that may be a different reason to bring it into the equation.

If you are bilingual/trilingual - this would be a plus. If you travelled to Belarus and can use your experiences in your application - it may be good too.

there’s nothing good or bad about having parents from another country
