I know that some schools still look at just the CR+M for evaluation, and take very little consideration for the Writing portion. Does Yale do this?

Bump...I'd really like to know.

Thanks!

It's pretty school specific - your best bet for real information would be to google some appropriate keywords and see if they have made any public pronouncements.

I've seen this discussed a few times before. Apparently Yale announced that they do not and will not be taking the writing portion of the SAT into account for admissions. However, if you look on their website at the profile of the incoming freshmen class, it does give you their average score ranges on the writing portion of the exam as well as the reading and math. This obviously means that someone at Yale was paying attention to those scores enough to want prospective students to be aware of what current student scored in the past.

Do with this information what you will, I really don't know what to make of it. Best bet is probably just to do as well as you can so you don't have any regrets.

email yale admissions

mono, youre very very wrong

ive been to TWO Yale information sessions with two different admissions officers and asked them this same question

and BOTH said that Yale DOES look at the Writing Section of the SAT

The reason why they lowered the SAT Subject test requirement from 3 to 2 is because they consider the Writing SAT section as fullfilling one of the SAT Subject requirements

so yes, they STILL look at your writing sat ii section a lot

would a high score on the writing section be considered equivalent to the same score on an sat II or would it be better or worse?

I'm very sorry I gave misinformed information, however I admitted it seemed fishy. The only reason I said that Yale didn't use the SAT writing score was because I saw this link in a discussion some time ago.

I don't know that it is valid, but there it says that Yale pays no attention to the writing score.

lol...no need to apologize, misunderstanding has been cleared up

its all good
