<p>I think financial employers are more concerned with what your courseload says about your work ethic and motivation than whether you have specific knowledge applicable for the job. Most interns are not expected to be fluent in finance, but they are expected to work hard in school, get top grades, and show an interest in intellectual stimulation. If you can show these I think, from personal experience, you will be fine.</p>
<p>You’re major doesn’t matter a whole lot, provided you have the background through your previous experience. I’m getting offers for Finance and Management internships, and I’m in the college of arts and sciences (non-econ).</p>
<p>well obviously if you are applying for engineeering type of jobs you cant be a philosophy major</p>
<p>It depends on the internship.</p>
<p>Fwiw, math/econ is a nice combo. My D did math/government and will probably go econ for graduate school, currently working in an environment that draws upon all three…and they look for various mixes when they hire.</p>
