Is there a difference minoring math/stats 4 finding jobs (with an econ major)?
Also is a double major in econ & math worth it or would a minor suffice?
I would not worry about minoring or double majoring. After college, employers care about the amount of work experience you have. Get the best grades you can in one major (economics), get an internship related to that field, then you should see yourself with a job after college. You don’t need to minor or double major in anything. Get work experience and good grades. I wouldn’t suggest double majoring or minoring, waste of time. You will see yourself worrying to finish in 4 years than focusing on getting that work experience you need.
^ don’t agree. Econ majors are common but adding a minor in math or certainly a major will set you apart some looking for internships and jobs. It will also show you are challenging yourself. Plus, should you end up deciding to go on for a grad degree in Econ, math is vital to gain entry.
I don’t agree @wayneandgarth. Focusing on one major would be just fine if they have a internship during school. Experience is what matters for employers, not the degrees or minors a person has. Focusing on ONE major and going on to a master looks A LOT better than just a bachelor’s in Econ with a math minor. I wouldn’t worry about minoring since it won’t do much.
I work at a firm and they constantly tell me what other employers want and what they are looking for. Experience and the ability to do the job right trumps anyone with an Econ major and math minor
A. A math minor adds to your education.
B. For those coming out of school, with two students with equal internships, an employer may give the nod to someone who challenged themselves academically.
I’ve hired dozens of people over decades.
