I was wondering if it won’t look bad to participate three different faculty researchs at the same time. There are so many interesting topics that some chem.E professors are engaging in, and I think I can handle a tough schedule like I have done for last 2 years.
The question is, when I apply form masters, will that look like a laundry list?
IMO you would probably be better off taking more of a lead role in one of the projects than a small role in three projects.
Try to figure out what your role would be in each lab, and pick one where you think you could make a substantial contribution. Undergrads who spend just a few hours a week in a lab tend to just do lab chores (BOOORING), whereas if you can swing 10-15 hours a week in one lab you’ll have your own research going, as @happy1 said. If you can get into a lab where you will be working really closely with the PI and other students, this will show dedication and a grad-student-like commitment to research, and your PI can also give you a more detailed letter of recommendation.
^^^I don’t expect the OP will be able to “have your own research going” as suggested above. As an undergrad my D was very involved in 2 research projects at 2 separate times (each probably working 10- 15 hours/week). While the professor suggested the research topic and obtained the necessary funding, she was able to take the lead on a number of aspects of the research. Working closely with the professors did lead to great experience, amazing LORs for grad school (she thinks – she didn’t see them but got into great grad programs), and she was the second author on an article published in a peer reviewed journal.
