Working in 2 (different) research labs at once?

Hey so I would really like to work two different research labs at once. One lab is one in which I am quite established and know the PI quite well. The other is a lab in which I would like to go to grad school for (neuroscience). I just finished up my sophomore year of college. I will be working in both labs this summer and would really like to continue working in them during the school year. I only have 3 classes (plus a part time job ~10 hrs per week), so I think that I will be able to split my time between the two labs.

But how do you think grad schools will view working in two labs at once?

If you are making good progress in both labs, neither of your PIs mind, and the split nature of your attentions doesn’t mean that you are doing mediocre work in both (as opposed to excellent work in one), then I think it should be a neutral to good thing. But if you just finished your sophomore year, you have two years left - why not devote all of your energies to the lab in the area you want? It’s not uncommon for undergraduates to switch labs once they secure a position in a lab that does research they’re interested in.
