Almost posted this in the cafe, as the end result was me pouring a glass of wine (for myself, mind you) -- but S1 just pushed "send" on his last application. Two safeties, two low-ish matches, two medium to high-ish matches and one reach for those who care about such things.

The best thing was an essay developed in summer for Common App that, by dumb luck, fit every single "passion" essay with very little editing. Worst was finding a few merit scholarships at the last minute that needed small essays and were due at the "priority" deadline.

I'm sure I'm not alone in having a kid whose colleges have early deadlines. How's it going for everyone else?

D did her final four today including supplements. Her school counselors insist that regardless of the deadline for applications at the particular college, they want all applications finished by 12/1. Since she has a meeting tomorrow with her, that definitely lit the kerosene under her butt.
It's nice to meet those developmental milestones, isn't it?
Next milestone is getting all of those merit scholarship applications written. Ugh.

::clinks glass with SoCalGal and hope4freeride:: Well maybe they are done. At any rate they are mostly done. One D has 9 apps out w/ three acceptances in and 6 more to hear from between now and April. The other has 8 out with two acceptances and the remaining 6 on the same timeline. The one remaining app isn't due until 1/1 and involves quite a bit of extra effort. One or both may decide to bag it. I hope they don't but if they do I am at peace with their decisions. That's reason to celebrate no?

SoCalGal: Was it UCs and/or CSUs you finished up with tonight?

My S just submitted #11 last night. Only 1 more to go! That is the only one requiring a FAFSA for merit aid consideration. It's not top of his list and I'm considering discussing the possibility of dropping it. He's been accepted to 2 already. Has one additional scholarship application to do. I see the proverbial light!

historymom -- back at you! Can't quite imagine having two to deal with at the same time, although I know my DD won't put it off as much as her procrastinating brother did. The plan was to have all the essays written in summer. Yeah, right.

Last one in was USC along with their alumni scholarship apps. SDSU & Cal Poly SLO are his safeties, and those applications are easy (and thus were the first ones finished). UCs were done Wednesday as we heard their server had a tendency to crash nearing the deadline.

OK edad...no fun sucking allowed in here! We have been looking forward to our kids being done for eons and no raining on our parade is to be permitted. So pour the wine, pass the hors deouvres (sp) and give me the kareoke mic. We are celebrating :D Of course you are welcome to join us! Grab a lei and don a funny hat it's a party!

Yes, it is time to celebrate - my D is now a Freshman in college, other one is a long way away from the process. Believe me - it only gets easier. The wait was a little hard though - if I remember right. In the Spring, all of a sudden my D knew exactly when the mailman would be on our street and would appear - still can't figure out how she did it.
Rejoice - it is a special time - and I raise my vodka/diet tonic to you all!!!

My D is done with apps!! I still can't believe it. So why don't I feel more like celebrating? Maybe I will when we stop getting those "Your transcript is missing," etc., emails -- AND when the first acceptance comes her way, and she can see the fruits of her hard work during HS and for her apps.
