Don't Ask a Stressed-Out Student About Their College Plans

“What stresses high school seniors more than the college application process? Adults asking them about their grades, college choices and their SAT scores. WSJ’s Sue Shellenbarger and Tanya Rivero discuss how high school seniors are handling the anxiety over college admissions and what are more appropriate and more encouraging ways to ask a senior about their college prospects.” [Video]

I saw this and had to cringe a bit because I am that person. It definitely gives me pause now and I am glad I read the WSJ article on this. I guess I did not appreciate the harm I caused in my quest to gather some information that I felt could allow me to better understand what my son would be up against or encounter in the college process.

I will have more empathy now for these HS seniors.

P.S. What about us parents? I am constantly bombarded with questions on where my son is going!!!
