Don't give them the satisfaction of putting you down

I am a short asian girl, and where I live, that means taking crap. However, I refuse to take crap from people. I don't want to ever give them the satisfication of making them feel better.

So here's the senario, I buy stuff from JC Penny online, and I have to return stuff through the home store. I go there, and immediately I see a sick looking lady who asks for the manager. The manager is a 30 year old white lady with too much makeup. She tells me I can't return the items since they have been worn, but I never opened them! So, I tell her what kind of custome service is this. She gives me look of contempt like you ugly minority girl who do you think you are. She didn't say it, but it was written all over her face. Instead she called me a snobby brat and told me that returnng it would mean a loss for the store's revenue! So, she only agreed to return one item, and when she left she said your welcome in a super fake voice. THIS is a store manager who's 30 years old for chrissake! as I was leaving I was thinking about a comeback but it never came to me. I should not have given her the satsfaction of it!

So, it turns out that the store never returned the money onto my card. I have to go there again to resolve it. I called the store and she still remembered me~!

I am sick of fake middle aged white ladies treating me like ****. What should I say to her after I go there and they finish processing my money?

something along the lines of "lady, you talk about losing revenue, and in case you haven't figured it out, customers sign YOUR paycheck" or "Lady, you need to get off your high horse/ fake designer heels and stop prejuding people cuz customers sign YOUR paycheck. OR Lady, I was so surprised that you still remembered me--your life must be really boring and pathetic.

sorry, I'm just ranting..... Which should I say? I don't want to give her the satisfaction of using me as an ego booster...

I knew a girl who never let people enjoythe satisfaction of putting her down...she always had the right words to say....

What would you have done? Which phrase should I say?

BTW, this is the norcal Tri Valley JC Penny homestore

I wouldn't try to argue with that manager anymore. go in at a different time, or call the JC Penny's customer service number.

Call her something bad and tell them to give you your money.

I'd say simply go into the store with a ski mask and ride that lady like a piggy in stockings...or complain to someone higher in the store hierarchy.

No, I say change your attitude. If I go to a store, I don't notice people's fake designer heels. Basically, just lay off the negative energy and be an OPTIMIST. Look at the bright side of everything. That will help a ton.

Hey notdoneyet welcome to CC! As for your situation be optimistic and positive. Feel sympathy toward her, she evidently has problems for calling you a 'snobby brat' for no reason. The lady probably has no friends, and hates her job. Hope this helped!

Why do you have to make it a race issue. Working in retail, a lot of people return items just to make money of the stores.

I don't think it's about race. I think she's just a nasty person, period. Do you have ANY evidence that she was doing it becuase you were Asian? None. Of course you would jump to that conclusion, but that's ridiculous; your race is just as privileged as the Caucasian one, so don't go crying "racist" when it's clearly just an issue of a nasty person. I'm a blond-haired blue-eyed white female who's been treated just like that in department stores, oy.

You should have taken one of the things you were trying to return and show her what it feels like to gasp for air.

[or be the bigger person]

troll...........

optimization, you just made my day :).........LOL, hilarious.

take a chill pill..it isn't racism if the person if a biatch to everyone

you should contact JCPenney customer service
write a complaint

Use the shotgun method.

^ Yes... but toilet paper and spray paint might be enough to make your point... without getting a felony charge if caught.

No i am not a troll.

THis really happened. SOme people think it is so easy to play the race card...you people must never have experianced discrimination in your lives. I only mentioned my race becuase the lady had treated a 16 year old looking girl with respect, and her attitude shifted with me, even before I said a word and was smiling!

I will go talk to a supervisor. Yes, I had the tags on.

and, somebody on the other thread mentioned that I shouldn't care cuase I must be rich since all asians are rich....uh, yea right... we live in south hayward in case you don't know...(for CA people, you know how "not rich" that place is) btw, the household income statistics for Asians only seems high b/c asians have more people living in the household...like sisters working and going to community college or uncles/grandparents. It is not uncommon for grandparents and extended relatives to live in the same household. In my family I work, my sister works, my parents work, and so does my grandfather. No wonder our "household income index" seems high! could it be becuase there are more people working? My neighbor is fillipino and they have two uncles living with them. THey contribute to the family income, so their household income level is very high but they are still not rich at all, far from it.

oh, and newspapers love to mention this seemingly high household income so that they can use it to make other minorities seem bad/ generate interesting stories to make money on.

THere is a stereotype that all asians are rich. If this sterotype did not exist I would not have been called bratty and snobby.

plus, asians live in urban areas, like LA, SF, NYNY... Honululu which pay more in terms of jobs...a job at McDonald's in SF is EIGHT dollars minimum wage! BUT the rent there is really high too. So, your making more but you are not really able to buy more stuff.

You should go back and after she processes your money tell her to consider the fact that it's customers who sign her paycheck and that she should realize that regardless of how high up in the store she is, she still needs to cater to customers, not vice versa. Then let her know that you're going to contact customer service to report her.

Who cares, I'm sure you acted like an ******* so you got treated like an *******.
