If you have any alternatives DON’T GO TO Cal Poly Pomona. It’s impossible to get classes (most students take SIX YEARS to graduate), the administration does not care at all about students and makes everything as hard as possible, there’s essentially no career counseling or resources, parking is dreadful, the library is impossible to use, many of the faculty barely speak English, and there’s no social life to speak of.
It’s really more like a shopping mall than a college. You fight for a parking space, go to an overcrowded class, have no where decent to hang out until your next class which is two hours later, go to another overcrowded class then get in your car and go home to your loser high school friends.
Most important, if you’re a GOOD student, is that many, many students that completely lack college level skills are admitted under special programs or as transfers from community colleges. So the level that classes are taught is extremely low - - more like a high school than a real college. I’ve been in classes with students that could not do LONG DIVISION and a QUARTER of the GRADUATES have such poor English skills that they fail the Graduate Writing Exam, which any high school sophomore should be able to pass.One the other hand, if you’re not very bright and have poor skills, you’ll fit right in at Cal Poly Pomona.
There are some good programs at Cal Poly Pomona: Animal Science, some Engineering, Architecture but these are not enough to set off against the real disadvantages of attending this place.You wouldn’t be happy here. Don’t waste six years of your life regretting your decision.
You have described pretty much every college in the country. Sure some might have more of a social life but who cares about that. You are in college to learn something, get a degree and start a career, not to go out and socialize every night.
Lower division classes are always hard to get into regardless of what school you go to. If you are taking anything like calculus, english, history, or any class that is in the 200s or less are all going to be impacted because every student from every major is trying to get into those classes.
Parking is like that everywhere in southern California, get used to it.
Cal Poly Pomona does have the 4 year Pledge for Freshman and the 2 year Pledge for Transfers. If you meet the requirements you are guaranteed your classes to graduate in 2 or 4 years.

@df1995 We have been in a bad economy for years now and all public schools are suffering because of it. That is why most majors are impacted and classes are overcrowded. I would rather spend 6k a year here then spend 12-50k a year for an undergraduate degree.
What classes have you seen this in? Because if the students are struggling with basic Math then they are probably taking remedial courses or they are not even in a STEM major. As for community college students, the college material is the same throughout every university and community college. The only difference is that community college students paid three hundred dollars less for the class. I don’t see the correlation on how a community college student is gonna lower the bar at a university since community college students took the same courses and were required to have a certain GPA to even get in the university. Moreover, if they got in an impacted major, those students had to have a good GPA to begin with. Secondly, according to your post history, you made this exact topic five years ago with the same points. I think you’re just ■■■■■■■■ or bitter because you couldn’t go to an Ivy league school or something.
@Plotix: I was unable to find anywhere on the 4 year pledge that states Engineering and Architecture are exempt. It does state that Architecture is a five year pledge and site allows you to view the Engineering 4 year pledge advisors, so I see no exemptions.
@Gumbymom The 2 Year Transfer pledge says Engineering and Architecture majors are ineligible, I’m guessing @Plotix assumed it applied to the 4 Year Pledge as well.

@df1995 It sounds like you have had a bad experience. But, this school is not the same for everyone. It’s an incredible school. The classes are not over crowded, there is a ton to do, the professors are not the “could care less” kind that you describe. My daughter is having a blast. School is tough and she is having a great time. She has met some incredible students that are very intelligent. One student is taking this quarter off school to do a $20k internship and then will return in the fall. Almost every college has its good points and bad points. School and life is what you make of it. Good luck in your future and I hope you find what makes you happy.
