Don't know if I qualify

Hi, Questbridge has been sending me lots of emails and letters, and a couple partner colleges have sent emails about applying through Questbridge.

I'm not really sure if I should even bother applying. My parents make ~$90,000k but there are 7 people in my household and there is debt. Also, my stats are pretty ordinary (2100 SAT, 3.7UWGPA). No real hardships, except living paycheck to paycheck.

The application is very long and I don't want to fill the whole thing out and write essays if I'm not even the type of candidate they are looking for. Thank you in advance!!

. Are these 5 all dependents for tax purposes? Well the debt part isn’t considered in financial aid or likely QB, that’s on them. I’m always hearing 60k and under although I don’t think there is an official cutoff. I wonder how you got on the radar. There are other threads here that discuss higher income. But my best guess is this is going to be a no as far as need goes. What is your fafsa EFC?

Would like to know more on this too…
thinking of applying next year, however I don’t know if this qualifies:
(not sure about income) but is definitely below 90k a year and we have 5 people in household (2 currently in college with me about to follow up…) and a TON of debt :</p>

I’ve been getting the same. I meet all the academic requirements but I’m pretty sure my parents make too much to qualify. I think we’re in the 90-100k range with 5 people, but my parents only claim me on taxes. So I’m really not sure why I’ve been getting info either.

The number QB quotes is 60K or below for applicants and the profile of students who are matched shows a lower number - generally below 40K for average family. Some colleges specify they will only match a student with 0 EFC. The goal of Questbridge is to provide a leg up in the admissions process for students who have overcome obstacles, struggled in one way or another, due to family circumstances.

All families are different, and QB does consider number of sibs in college, medical bills, dependent family overseas ( gov’t won’t look at this but QB does consider any extenuating circumstances). Only you can say if your academics, high school experience, or life in general has been challenged by low income/lack of resources. IOW, look at the spirit, not the letter of the law. But not every student has to have had their utilities shut off and been on food stamps to qualify for Questbridge (although many/most do qualify for free/reduced lunch, SAT waivers etc). If you take an honest look at your life, you’ll know whether it’s the right program for you or not.

Ultimately, the point of the Questbridge application is to give you a platform to tell your hardship story, so you need to make sure you have a story to tell!
