So I took the SAT in January and I got a 2250 (R: 730, M: 730, W: 790, E: 9)
My friends and peers tell me that this score is too low for an Asian to get into my dream school, Stanford, but then my guidance counselor keeps telling me that my score is fine for wherever I want to go. I'm really nervous that if I don't retake it my low "Asian" score will negatively affect my admissions. But I'm also nervous that if I do retake it and I don't show enough improvement (like 100 points) it will also negatively affect me. Please help! D:

I wish I could get your score, but I would retake it for an ivy league and get like 2300+.

You should only retake if you feel that you can do better.
A 100 point improvement is not likely, realistically, and just because you’re Asian doesn’t mean that 2250 is a low score. It’s actually fantastic, so congratulations!

since none of your subscores is substantially below the others (730 is fine), your good. however… you may want to retake it if you really think you can get above a 2300. its just that seeing that 3 makes a difference to the admissions reviewer, even if its subconscious. its not a huge deal, and if you dont feel comfortable retaking it, 2250 is a great score that certainly will not keep you out on any school

Good job! I think your dream school super scores your sat ( correct me if I’m wrong) so If you want to retake go for it! But focus more on math and reading.

Great job! You have a really good SAT score, but some might say that you are right about having to improve it because of your race. I don’t remember the source, but I read somewhere that studies show that Asians must get 100 points higher than Caucasians in order to be competitive in getting in. Stanford has many Asian applicants also, so you might want to consider improving your score slightly. It is really good, but if you think that you can improve it by at least 100 points (like others have said on this thread), then go for it! Otherwise, take your chances, and hope for the best! It is very difficult to get into Stanford anyway, so you may never know if your SAT score was the deciding factor although it probably would not be. Best of luck in being accepted!
