Hi I'm new to College Confidential and I had a question...

So people have been posting on my threads about my chances to colleges with terms like "high reach" or "low match". I know what reach and match are of course... but which is better? A low reach or a high reach? I high match or a low match?

I know this may sound silly but I just want to be sure!

What replies you get to your chance me threads are not relevant to where you should apply.
What is more relevant.
What AP courses did you take?
Are they along the lines of calc AB & chemistry?
Or AP Geography & Psychology?
Will you be National merit scholar?
What are you interested in/major?
What can your family afford?
You have many expensive schools on your list.
Schools which are known for gapping students or out of state universities which don’t have room for all the instate students.

Even if you were admitted to Cal or NYU, could you afford them?

There are many affordable schools, and you dont need to go out of state to get a good education.
Have you considered womens colleges? They often have good aid.

High reach means practically no chance but fingers crossed for a miracle
Low reach means somewhat of a tiny chance
Hi match means maybe
low match means likely
safety means almost sure thing

And here’s a further tip: many of the people “chancing” don’t have any better idea of your chances than you do. Take them all with a grain of salt. Or a lot of grains of salt.
