don't send more essays?

In Columbia's App, it says under the Additional Info page

You may use this page for any additional necessary information that you could not provide in the application itself. You should not feel compelled to provide additional information unless it is necessary to do so, and we prefer that you do not attach additional essays and writing samples.

Did anyone submit extra essays anyway? esp. the ED Applicants

Thanks People!

bump, please someone respond!

I did not put anything under that section for ED, if they tell you dont send essays then don't lol. neways gl with your application =p

I'm wondering the same thing
I want to submit an essay too because I didnt really show my academic side on the main essay...

If you feel that you haven't completely presented yourself in the main part of the application, by all means add it to the additional information section. If they don't want to read it they won't. They won't hold it against you and if may help if you're borderline. Good luck.

Actually, if they don't want to read it they will hold it against you.

Don't send extra essays. There's a reason why their own essay is so broad and all-encompassing. And why they tell you not to send extra essays.

I know of several people last year who added information on the additional information pages and were accepted. Again, as I said, do this only if you feel as though you have not been able to present yourself as fully as you would like on the main part of the application. Don't just put BS on the additional information page. Make sure it adds something valuable to your application.

and definitely NOT something that they asked in another question. even if you ran out of room, IMO.

Columbia did NOt say that they do not want an addtional essay.
They said that they do not PREFER it, though.
But I want to send in another essay that talks about my academic side (My main essay was about my personal side)

Should I send it in?

If talking about your academic side is just restating the statistics on the other part of your application, don't do it. They can see what classes you excel in and where your academic strengths are. If you have something more insightful to say that hasn't also been said by your GC or teacher recs, by all means go ahead.
