dont take AP Econ credit if an econ major?

i am going to be an econ major at NU next year. i took the econ tests today and feel pretty confident about 5's on both. These 5's will place me out of econ 201 and 202, which are the introductory econ classes at NU. ppl on the NU board are saying that it is a mistake to not take these classes. i was wondering if i could get more opinions on this. has anybody else skipped the intro econ classes as an econ major? how was the difficulty of the new class? should i not take the placement credit? thanks alot

Uhhh... why wouldn't you place out of the introductory courses? I did at Columbia and went straight to the intermediate sections, which were also quite easy. I don't know how difficult Econ is at Northwestern, but what's the point of the AP course if you're just going to take it again? Also, it will probably look very bad to grad schools and other students, who'll think you're just trying to get a high GPA.

Econ classes are pretty important, if that's what you're looking to study. Re-taking it and getting a high A and a blow-off, if you already know the info, woulndn't hurt.

The best assesment would be to look at some current exams and assignments and see if you can do them. Intro stuff is so basic, it probably won't matter. NU wouldn't give you credit for the course unless they felt like you were relatively competent in the material.

Then again, taking them again is an easy A, and nobody, except for bipolarbear, really cares that much if you get an easy A.
