Don't understand how lecture > webcast

at 8 am. I'm usually half falling asleep and with Malkin being a terrible teacher (i hate professors who have to stop mid sentence, check notes, continue, stop, and the cycle continues) I barely know what he's talking about even though I know this material just from AP bio (had a tough teacher who actually graduated from Cal; hell we were using the same book 7th edition).
So at least with webcast, I can pause, take time to think about what Malkin said and take proper notes. How is going to lecture better as Mike loves to say???

Yah me too. I only understand the material after I watch it on webcast and am allowed to pause and think. He goes so fast, but going to lecture makes me feel like I’m productive even if I’m not haha

I guess it’s mainly to not fall behind. That’s probably the main reason. I procrastinated so much in Bio 1B, it wasn’t even funny. I eventually webcasted six lectures consecutively for Resh’s section… But other than that, I think the webcast is pretty good in the sense that we could pause it whenever we want.

Really there are only a couple of very minor advantages to live attendance, plus one practical advantage for some students.

First, the practical advantage. Some will play the webcast but not fully pay attention, or delay watching it and suffer in discussion quizes or homework. Not a huge factor if you have the discipline to watch carefully, if you pause and rewind, and if you keep up with the pacing of the class.

If you have a question and if the instructor allows those to be raised in the lecture, you could pose it. This is pretty trivial as you could use office hours or discussion to get the same question answered.

You might pick up an interesting nuance on a point from a comment by a nearby person which you wouldn’t overhear on the webcast. Admittedly, you could also have someone wander by your room and make a similarly valuable comment but who was not in your class. Weak, I know.

The last though, deserves some thought. The webcast does not adequately focus on hot people sitting in the classroom, nor give you face recognition with them, nor give you the ability to sync your walking to permit casual talk as you enter or leave.

^HAHAHA if only bio 1A was bursting with hotties.

True. However, if you are there, the possibility of spending an hour viewing a hottie is higher than the chances of doing so on the webcast. Hope springs eternal.

True, but the google search engine gives more possibilities while trying to webcast  BTW does anybody know if the Bio 1AL study sessions that Meighan offers are informative?

did anyone go to the session on friday?

I did. It wasn’t really that helpful. All he really told us was to read the book and to take a lot of notes. Then after taking those notes, consolidate them and exchange with a friend so that you get the most information as possible.

read the Campbell book? or the Lab manual?

Read both the campbell and the lab manual very quickly before lecture so that you get an idea about what he is going to be talking about.
