People think its like the worst time of their life when they get rejected.. think about getting wait listed at numerous places.. ASIDE from your backups.. take a look at this:

Accepted (All backups.. that arent worth it really):
1. Centenary College
2. Tulane
3. Trinity University
4. Baylor
5. LSU

Waitlisted:
1. UPenn
2. Princeton
3. WashU
4. Brown
5. UNC-Chapel Hill
6. Tufts
7. Reed
8. Swarthmore
9. Emory

I have one more hope left:
1. UVA

Its craziness.. I wish I could get into their minds and figure out how exactly everything works.....Any ideas?

oh yeaaaaah... I got wailisted at Columbia, Middlebury, Amherst, Williams, Vassar, Bowdoin and Carleton.. I think schools love to waitlist me. are you international btw?

Ha... i wish... but no im from Louisiana.. in other words.. 1st impressions make Louisiana.. Lousyana

Centenary? didn't know people actually applied there from so far...that's in my dinky little hometown...it's not worth it...they offer our high school to take courses for like $40, but no one does because it has a bad rep...wouldn't go there for free...

Well, being waitlisted, especially at places where you have almost no chance to get off the list, is certainly disappointing, but let me assure you:

Being rejected is definitely worse.

To the OP, I have to say that I am really surprised that Princeton/UPenn/Brown's waitlisted applicant was also Tufts/Emory/and Reed's waitlisted applicant. I mean, those are all good, selective schools, but I would think that a candidate who was waitlist worthy at Princeton would be acceptance worthy at Reed.

LogisticsLord, I think you may be thinking of a different school. Centenary College is in Shreveport (LA, the same state as the OP) and it is not a bad school. As far as I know it has a pretty good rep (though not outstanding).

OP, Any scholarship offers in the acceptances? That should make a difference as to whether any are worth it.

Yeah I honestly don't understand. I get being wait listed at the Ivy's but the other colleges make no sense. I really dont know what to do. I could go to Trinity or something and transfer but I dont know how that looks. Does a graduate school see that when you transfered when one applies to another school?

And btw that dinky little town is where I live also.. haha.. how ironic...

Yes i did get major scholarships.
Centenary: 20K
Tulane: 25K
Trinity: 18K
LSU: They pay me 3K to go to the school
Baylor: Standard of 11K

But still there isn't much rep from these places. Centenary is considered a Top Business Small College. It doesn't have much rep for the Pre-Med Program, and I don't want to stay in town for another 4 years. Aside that there is a Med-School (LSUHSC-S) here in Shreveport that I want to come back to because the tuition for instate applicants is 10K only. So if I went to Centenary I would be in the same city I have aspired never to see in my life again after Med School for another 8 years.

Well, I don't know about premed, but I would say that Tulane has the best overall rep and the biggest name, plus a nice scholarship, although I am sure that it is still much more expensive than most of your other choices.

Yeah... its like 45K... not very pleasant..

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well, I would accept most if not all of your waitlists. Your chances are very low/almost zero at a place like Princeton, but I would think that at an Emory or a Reed, you would have a least an okay shot of coming off the list. Beyond that, I would suggest that you either go for Tulane, which is the best school on your list in my opinion and wouldn't be too expensive with your large scholarship (assuming you can afford the money, which you may not be able to), or Trinity or Baylor, which are both relatively good schools who have offered you decent money. From what you have said, you really don't seem to want to go to Centenary and although LSU is free, it is the least well-reputed school on your list, in my opinion.

I've been waitlisted at a school I would really love to go to. I'm going to send in the form saying I'm accepted a spot on their wait list.. but could I write a letter with it, saying that I would most likely enroll if accepted and I really appreciate being given the opportunity to attend their school? ..Or is that just over-the-top?

I'm not sure..

BurntExpresso, it's not over the top. Writing a letter of intent is a good option to reverse a waitlist. So is sending in updated resumes/list of new awards, achievements, etc. You can even get someone to write you a new letter of recommendation. Your chances of getting off the waitlist are slim, but by doing these things, you're already doing more than the average person the waitlist. You'll have a better chance of reversal this way.

Thanks, murkywater. I'm going to write them a letter. I would loveee more than any of my other acceptances to go to this school. The only obstacle would be the financial aspect of it.

Good luck, BurntExpresso. You may or may not be able to reverse the decision, but I really hope that it works out for you!

I see waitlists as a positive. It means that you're just as good as the students accepted, but the colleges just don't enough spaces available.

I'd rather be waitlisted than rejected because there's no hope.

I completely agree with what *aurieme *. I just got waitlisted on Northwestern, my first choice. So I am gonna pray and do everything in my might to change thier minds. Is emailing a good choice of communicating with the college. And does anyone know exactly where to send updates/grades/awards- through the email?

i just got waitlisted at my two top choices, University of Chicago and Northwestern. If you have questions smoothies about what you should do, i would definitely call them! email is good, but a more personal touch will def. look better to them. I just called uofc and my admissions counc. told me i just took the first step in showing that i really want to go there.

that's a perfect idea Hermione's twin. So when you called them, what did you exactly say- how did you start your conversation and what did you talk about?
