Doolie Day Out cancelled due to flu outbreak

Posted on another website:

Sponsor Families have been notified that Basics will not be allowed to leave the Academy for Doolie Day Out tomorrow. However (I have been told by a sponsor parent) that Basics will be allowed to call home, Sponsors may deliver treats for distribution to their Basics and Basics will be given a day of rest, some fun activities, etc.

duuuuuuuuuuuuuude

sucks… understandable though.

Poor kids, I feel bad for them :frowning: I bet most of them will be sleeping anyway, and just calling home, and I guess you can do that anywhere.

I wonder how they are gonig to be able to call home?

I know I am going to get a flood of emails from my 2013 parents asking this questions.

Uppers, will you be sticking around and lending cell phones? Will they get their cell phones back if they brought them, for the the day?

Any answers would be much appreciated.

my guess is that they will give them their phones to use that day…

yeah i dunno how that’ll work either… i’d definitely lend mine out if i could

My son brought his cell phone and charger in his bag. We have unlimited minutes on the weekend so if any cadre are reading this he is in Cobras A and if you give him his phone back he can share it (just give him some antibacterial wipes please to wipe it down between users! I hope someone thinks of that.)

Yes, they are getting their cell phones. There will be food and movies available, and they are going to be “at rest” for the day.

basic cadets who brought phones and turned them in with civilian luggage will get them back. otherwise there will be phones available in Arnold Hall tomorrow to use, as well as computers and movies and food.

sponsor’s who have pre-packaged items for basic cadets can place them in a box/bag with the basic cadets name, squadron, and flight, and drop them off at A-hall between 0700-0930. Sadly though, no one will be allowed to visit the basic cadets.

upperclassmen are still dismissed as normal as 2nd BCT cadre will be taking over tomororw after “Doolie Day In”. we’re doing everything we can to take care of them and let them have a little time off.

thanks for the update eagle. do you mind if I post that info to our yahoo group and send it out to my 2013 parents?

feel free.

67 Air Force Academy cadets have H1N1 flu

CNN

DENVER, Colorado (CNN)– Sixty seven cadets at the Air Force Academy have confirmed cases of H1N1 influenza — the so-called swine flu — and another 30 are showing symptoms of the highly contagious virus, the academy said Tuesday.

None of the cadets have required hospitalization.

All of the 97 are incoming freshman, known as “Doolies” in academy slang, are in isolation while the rest of the class of about 1,300 are in outdoor

training in the mountains around the Colorado Springs academy.

Academy officials say Air Force medical personnel are treating the cadets and they

hope to have everyone out of isolation before the August 6th beginning of classes.

Another 70 showed symptoms of the swine flu, but tested negative and have recovered enough to return to training.

Cadets in the class of 2,013 arrived at the academy June 25. By July 6, academy medical staff began noticing an increase in cadets complaining of

upper respiratory problems. As cadets have begun showing symptoms they are moved into a separate dormitory away from other cadets.

Laboratory tests are conducted at an Air Force lab in Texas, and results are forwarded to the Center for Disease Control.

The outbreak forced academy officials to modify “Doolie Day Out” on Saturday. Traditionally it is the first day off for cadets and they are allowed to leave the academy grounds. This year cadets stayed on grounds.

Does anyone know if those cadets who miss too many training days be getting medical turnbacks??

They have been told they will NOT be turned back for flu.
