Dorm and financial aid

Hello, I am not sure if I am posting in the right thread but I just really, really need help right now.

I am going to a school that I am very excited about attending, but haven’t committed yet. As I am about to take the final step, I decided to read over every packet of information that I’ve received, and found out disheartening news: the fact that I HAVE to dorm for my freshman year, or else the scholarship that I’ve received will be revoked. This is exactly what it said:

“A student who does not live in the residence hall during their freshman year permanently forfeits scholarship eligibility. If a waiver is submitted by the student to the Housing Office petitioning to live off campus is approved, scholarship eligibility for this program is still forfeited.”

I cannot dorm because I have to take care of my mother who cannot live alone for mental health issues. Without this scholarship, I cannot even dream of attending due to the costs. What should I do? Please help.

@PrincessxBoom, Repost in the financial aid forum. That area gets a lot of traffic.

I’d reach out to the school and see if they can make an exceptiin. If they say they can, get it in writing. Do you have any family members who could help you out? If not, make that clear to the school.

I just reposted it there, thank you for the tip. I just feel so lost and sad. My family is very poor and I am the first one to get college education so I have no support financially or morally.

I do plan to talk to the financial aid office but I am afraid that it would be too late considering that I would have to wait until monday morning when the office opens. This happens to be May 1st, the decision day.
